Designing a Kitchen to Not Look Like a Kitchen!

Kitchen Design Case Study – North Wales

Trudy Gabriel-Rutt at Office Envy asked Maranatha to design and create an office Kitchen that looked nothing like a kitchen in an office!

We were excited to take on the challenge for Trudy’s Deeside, North Wales showroom. Here, our head designer, Nick, explains:

Outstanding Impact

The Kitchen Design Brief

My original brief was to design an office kitchen area that looks nothing like an office kitchen area! Office Envy is a business that offers bespoke office planning and design services and creates healthy, beautiful, and effective workspaces.

They also sell great office furniture and specialise in ergonomic seating.

Working with other interior designers can be a ‘challenge’ but working with Trudy Gabriel-Rutt and the team was inspirational and a great pleasure.

The concept was centred around the appliances that Trudy and the team wanted to incorporate. These included; a Combi Micro, a self-cleaning oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and an all in one boiling/sparkling/chilled water tap by ZIP.

The Design Process

From here, it was a matter of designing something completely unusual with textures and materials to give that wow factor effect.

I used Airslate doors so when closed it gives a natural-looking finish with a local feel by having Welsh slate with a Halifax Oak trim to offset the look.

Key Bespoke Design features

I designed it as completely handless and with a unique bi-fold door effect, so it opens the working area to a glass back LED shelving system with colour changing lights to offer different moods. The client really wanted perfection, which is why they came to Maranatha.

Individual Design Challenge

The way it’s put together almost makes it a free standing option for a complete working kitchen it shows what you can create within a limited space to maximum efficiency for a workspace kitchen.

Attention to detail is what I strive for in every Design.  We are also blessed by an incredibly gifted team for all stages of our projects from the Design. This runs from the Workshop lads (who make it possible), to our Installer who made it fit. It is very satisfying when we see a project really go from concept (on CAD) to reality for the customer.

The Final Kitchen Result

We really enjoy helping our customers make the right choices and we love making the whole process enjoyable and exciting for them by managing it from beginning to end.

The greatest satisfaction for me is delivering personal service and beautiful spaces in our customer’s homes and work spaces that will be used for years to come.

Personally, I loved this design. When I am given free rein to indulge in materials I am able to show what we can deliver in ways of product knowledge and manufacturing to create something incredibly unique for the client.
