Choosing the Right Worktop
Designing the perfect kitchen for your home can be both exciting and a little daunting. After all, for many of us, the kitchen becomes the centre of family life in our home. One of the critical decisions for many prospective customers centres around ‘Worktops’.
The team here at Marantha have spent years identifying the very best worktops available so that you can select from beautiful, functional materials, guaranteed to not only last but also elevate the look and feel of your new space. Our team will recommend the best worktop to suit your design, but ultimately the choice is always yours.
Below we’ll run through our top 5 favourite worktops, these are a great place to start when visualising your room.
Corian is a solid surface from DuPont. It’s non-porous and made of 1/3 Acrylic to 2/3rds natural material. It’s been around since 1967 and has a strong reputation for both quality and its exceptional range of colour combinations. It’s a renewable surface as it can be cleaned with mild abrasive cleansers and it’s can’t delaminate. It can work in a similar way to hardwood making it very versatile. Corian makes it easy to create seamless almost completely invisible joins – no wonder it’s one of our most popular worktops.
Extremely hard and resilient, Silestone is a compound made from 90% natural quartz and is known for its beautiful texture and high stain resistance – often essential for a growing family. Available in 90 colours, 4 finishes and 3 textures, it’s a non-porous material that doesn’t need sealing and comes with a 25-year guarantee.
This is a well-known material, loved for its durability and luxurious finish. Granite is heat resistant and unlikely to chip or scratch. A natural, luminous surface that can appear multi-dimensional when polished. Granite worktops have been known to last over 30 years making them great value for money. They will need sealing, but once sealed they are low maintenance and can be show-stoppingly beautiful.
This is a very versatile material available in a range of different thicknesses, including a very thin 4mm. Alongside this very thin option is the ability to get Dekton in very large slabs, so for those oversized spaces, this can often be the perfect choice to avoid lots of joins. It’s highly resistant to heat, UV, scratching, staining and even freezing and thawing – making it ideal for those outdoor kitchen spaces.
Another popular and well-known choice, Quartz is a man-made surface made up of natural quartz and resin. It doesn’t require sealing and is a flexible material, lending itself to those more complex kitchens designs that benefit from a little more give here and there. This is a worktop often preferred by those looking to create a contemporary look with very discreet joins.
With so many choices, sometimes it can really help to have an expert or two to walk you through the options. Here at Maranatha, we’re ready to work with you to create the kitchen of your dreams with the perfect materials for your lifestyle and budget.
